Part A

Rectangle PQRS is rotated 90° counterclockwise about the origin to create rectangle P'Q'R'S' (not shown). What are the coordinates of point R'?

(−7,6)( - 7 , 6 )

(7,6)( 7 , 6 )

(−6,7)( - 6 , 7 )

(6,7)( 6 , 7 )

Part B

Rectangle PQRS is reflected across the y-axis and then translated down 2 units to create rectangle P''Q''R''S'' (not shown). What are the coordinates of Q''?

(−6,0)( - 6 , 0 )

(6,0)( 6 , 0 )

(−6,−4)( - 6 , - 4 )

(−6,2)( - 6 , 2 )

Answer: (7,6) and (-6, -4)

Explanation:

a) When rotating 90 degrees clockwise, (x,y) maps onto (-y,x), meaning R(6,-7) maps onto (7, 6).

b) Reflecting over the y axis maps (x,y) onto (-x,y), so Q(6,-2) maps onto (-6,-2). Then, we translate 2 units down, so we take away 2 from the y coordinate, giving us Q''(-6, -4).
