In ancient and modern times, stealing and making false accusations are both against the law. However, the punishments then and now are very different. Modern law in the United States would never put someone to death for such small crimes. Also, ancient societies did not enforce a law equally for all people. How a law was enforced had to do with the person’s status in the society. In the United States, everyone is equal in the eyes of the law.
