Our own Identity

When single stories impact our own identity, it makes others judge us based on how we look or/and what they've seen of our background/country. For instance, When the speaker said;

"What struck me was this: She had felt sorry for me. Her default position toward me, as an African, was kind of patronizing, well-meaning pity."

How we view others

When single stories impact how we view others, it makes us judge others based on how they look or what we've seen of where they come from. For example, the speaker explained;

"I realized that I had been so Immersed in media coverage of Mexicans that they had become one thing in my mind, the abject immigrant."

The choices we make

When a single story impacts the choices we make, it makes us choose the wrong choices. Like when the speaker said;

"What if my roommate knew about the female lawyer who recently went to court in Nigeria to challenge a ridiculous law that required women to get their husband's consent before renewing their passports?"

This way, the speaker is explaining how this would have gone if a single story did not make her roommate not know this. Even sometimes it makes us hesitate on which choice to choose.
