Luther claimed that the church was implying that people could buy their way into heaven. In other words, priests were selling indulgences. But according to the passage, Luther implies that the pope and priest were wrong by being ignorant and wicked.

In 1517, Martin Luther listed 95 criticisms of the catholic church; this list becoming condemned by the church in 1520. This passage explains how the catholic church responded to heresy. They felt unarguably correct about Church laws and beliefs that did not pertain to true spirituality. Luther’s beliefs caused a disruption to the political order of Europe and endangered the survival of the Catholic Church by inspiring the creation of new, Protestant churches. Therefore, this disruption led to the catholic reformation and the Reformation in Germany.
