x could be any number thus x could be 0. If x = 0 then 0 multiplied by 2 plus 6 equals 6. Because the added 6 is a positive number. In order to make "Twice x, plus 6" the same as -6 you would have to change the value of the x to -12 therefore -12 plus 6 equals the same as -6.
