I need a hypothesis for this statement

A great deal of cooks add salt to water. I always do, but I never actually taste the salt in the pasta. So why do cooks add salt? Does adding salt make the water boil faster?

Cooks add salt to water in order to further flavor their food via osmotic behaviors.
