Juan leaned a 55-foot ladder against the side of a building. The base

of the ladder is 21 feet from the base of the building. The top of the
ladder is 11 feet from the top of the building. How tall is the building?

Answer:

61.8 feet to nearest tenth.

Explanation:

USING THE PYTHAGORAS THEOREM:

55*2 = 21^2 + h^2 where h is the height of the top of the ladder from the ground.

h^2 = 55^2 - 21^2

= 2584

h = √2584

= 50.83 ft.

So the height of the building

= 11 + 50.83

= 61.83 feet.
