It is now time to complete the Pre-reading Discussion. What does the word "determination" mean to you? Have you ever been determined in a situation? If so, what was the outcome? If not, how might you need to show determination in the future?

Answer and Explanation:

To me, determination means having the strength to not allow people or circumstances to make me give up on something. It means persisting, even if I encounter hardship and disappointments. Fortunately, I have been able to show determination in a few situations, and in all of them I was successful. One instance took place a couple of years ago, when my parents could not afford to give me money for tickets. My favorite band was in town, and I wanted to go watch their concert badly! My determination to make the money made me much more proactive than I had ever been. I was able to find odd jobs and gigs everywhere, saving a few bucks here, a few more there. It felt incredibly satisfying to buy that ticket with the money I worked hard for.

NOTE: Feel free to adapt this to suit your own life.
