Near the middle of paragraph 2, the author describes a "young man, a new

comer" who shows sympathy for Akakiy. Write an imagined journal entry from the young
man's point of view as he reflects back on the situation later in life and the effects it has
had on his life. Use what you have read in the passage to provide specific details relevant
to the young man and Akakiy.

Final answer:

The journal entry reflects back on the young man's encounter with Akakiy and its impact on his life, highlighting the importance of compassion, empathy, and human connection.

Step-by-step explanation:

A journal entry from the young man's point of view, reflecting back on his encounter with Akakiy, might read:

Dear Journal,

As I sit here today, reminiscing about my younger days, one memory in particular stands out in my mind. It was the day I first encountered Akakiy, a young man who had recently arrived in our town. From the moment I saw him, I was struck by his gentle demeanor and kind heart. He exuded an aura of vulnerability, as if the weight of the world rested on his shoulders.

Being a newcomer myself not too long ago, I understood the challenges of acclimating to a strange place. But while I managed to find my footing and establish connections, Akakiy seemed perpetually stuck in a state of isolation. His struggles with loneliness and acceptance were evident, and my heart went out to him.

Over time, I made an effort to befriend Akakiy and provide him with companionship. We would often engage in deep conversations, discussing our hopes, dreams, and fears. Through these interactions, I learned of Akakiy's passion for literature and his desire to escape the mundane reality of his life. His enthusiasm was contagious, and together we embarked on countless literary adventures.

However, despite our efforts, Akakiy's situation never seemed to improve. The weight of his isolation and societal neglect took a toll on him, and I watched as he slowly withdrew into himself. It was a heartbreaking sight and a stark reminder of the harsh realities that so many face.

In retrospect, I realize that my encounter with Akakiy had a profound impact on my own life. It taught me the importance of compassion, empathy, and the power of human connection. It made me acutely aware of the struggles many individuals face and instilled in me a relentless drive to make a difference.

As I look back on that fateful meeting, I am grateful for the opportunity to have known Akakiy. He may have been a newcomer, but he left an indelible mark on my heart and forever shaped the way I view the world.

Dear Diary

Today I was admitted as a civil servant and was able to start work in my sector. I was very excited as this is an important step in adult life and a pleasant way to have financial independence.

I was very well received by my co-workers and I have nothing to complain about the way I was treated. However, something bothered me a lot and made me sad and anguished.

In the same sector as me, there is a man called Akakiy. He is a silent and strange man, but he does no harm to anyone and is so mistreated by all employees in the sector, especially by those who are close to mine. Akakiy does not fight back and pretends that nothing is happening, but the employees continue to mistreat him. Worst of all, Akakiy does nothing that deserves it, since he does his job efficiently and does not treat anyone unkindly.

It faxes me to think about how cruel and mean human beings can be. I don't want to be that kind of person and whenever I can show kindness to him. I hope that this situation will teach me to be a kind person and that my actions in the future will always be good and never evil and cruel to people who do not deserve it.
