The difference is 10.

5 - (-5) = 10.

you are subtracting a negative number.

That basically means adding.

a trick to that is using the two subtraction symbols to make a plus.

The difference is 10 because if you go from 0 to 5 and then go to -5 you're skipping 10 units to the left go there if you're going right it's positive 10 if you're going left it's negative -10
