Georgio drives 10 miles east, then 16 miles north, then 4 miles north again. Find the distance from his starting point to his ending point.

In the attached photo, y is the distance between starting point and the end point.

Thus we can obtain the value of y by using the pythagoras theory as show below:

Note: y is the longest side other wise known as the Hypothenus.

y² = 10² + 20²

y² = 100 + 400

y² = 500

Take the square root of both side

y = √500

y = 22.36 mile

Therefore, the distance between the starting point and the end point is 22.36 mile
