3(x - 1) = 3x - 3
The distributive property is a very important property used in algebra.
It states that when we have the statement a(b + c), we can "distribute" the
a by multiplying a times both terms that are inside the parenthses.
So that would give us a(b) + b(c) or ab + bc.
The same process is done here.
Distribute the 3 through both terms to get 3(x) - 3(1) or 3x - 3.
