Explanation:

If the given shape has been enlarged by scale factor 2, then each of the side lengths will be increased from 1 cm to 2 cm, as 1 × 2 = 2

Area of the given shape is 5 cm².

As we are working with area, we cannot simply multiply the area of the given shape by the scale factor. Area is measured in square units, therefore we need to multiply the area of the given shape by the square of the scale factor.

⇒ area of the enlarged shape = area of given shape × sf²

= 5 cm² × 2²

= 5 cm² × 4

= 20 cm²
