Their punishment would be fair, not cruel, but not lenient either. For so long we have drowned in each others blood that we cannot just put down our cannons and guns then move on as if nothing happened. Our country has been ravaged by this war. It must be repaid for. They will have to pay for majority of the damages.

Then comes the new laws. Slaves were freed. There will be no discrimination. We will then make sure no organizations would dare touch a free man. We will prosecute them with the upmost force. Then comes police action. Union forces will be posted in garrisons to keep the peace and make sure no conflicts arise...

Answer:

If I were the president, I would want the Reconstruction to be more harsh to the rebels. I think that racism is something that shouldn't be forgiven so easily, especially taking in consideration that they treated black people as objects to be traded for so long before they got justice. The rebels should be punished because they justified something so incredibly immoral, which was never and will never be okay. Although the US will always be their home, actions do have consequences.

By welcoming the rebels back to the US, we will be letting them off the hook which in some way justifies the things that they have done over the years, which is not right. By not punishing the people, they may think that they hadn't done such a sin which they had actually committed, and it's important for the rebels to understand why racism is so bad and what they did was unacceptable.

Step-by-step explanation:

I hope this is fine, it took some time so I hope it helps! :)
