In The Time Machine, how does this last sentence affect the reader? Very simple was my explanation, and plausible enough as most wrong theories are

The sentance affects the reader by having them think that the time travler may have some sort of tragic end, as well as some unexpected changes will probably follow the time travler, considering the situation he is in.
