So basically you can split the figure up into a couple of shapes. So what you want to do is find out what the area of one rectangle is, a rectangles formula is base x height, and thats 8x4, which is 32, and then you have 2 rectangles so you do 32x2, which is 64, and then, triangles. Triangles formula is 1/2 (bxh), (its 1/2 because a triangle is half of a rectangle) so you want to find out 7 - 4, because one side is 7 but from the rectangle you can see there is 4 already there, so then you do 7 - 4 = 3, then you do 3 x 8 = 24 divided by 2, and then you get 12, but since you have 2 triangles you can keep it at 24.
So now all you do is 24 plus 64 which is 88!
