We can use the slope intercept form of a line.

y = mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept

y = 1x +b

Substitute the point into the equation

3 = 1*5+b

3 = 5+b

Subtract 5 from each side

3-5 = 5+b-5

-2 =b

y = x-2
