Jan is a healthy 19-year-old who just had her wisdom teeth removed. She is resting at home and experiencing a great

deal of pain. The dentist has prescribed Percocet for pain relief. Because of the pain, Jan wants to know why the dentist
prescribed a limited supply of the medication.
How would you answer her?

Answer:

The dentist has given her a small amount of Percocet because if you have to much of it there could be may side effects such as slowing down or stopping your breathing.

An overdose of this medicine could cause to death which is why he gave you a limited supply of medication.

Answer:

Some medications (opioids) are really easy to get addicted on. Percocet is a mixture of the pain reliever acetaminophen, and of an opioid, oxycodone. If Jan starts to take to much she may stop needing it for pain but be taking it because she has an addiction. This can lead to an overdose and Jan could even die.

Hope this helps!
