A school trip uses a 42-seater coach (excluding the driver's seat). 36 students, 3 teachers and 3 parents go on the coach. Each student pays £4.25 towards the cost of the coach. Each parent pays twice as much as a student pays. The teachers travel for free. The coach company charges £195 for the trip. a Show that the money paid by the students and parents is not enough to pay for the coach.

Each student paid £4.25

Multiply number of students by amount paid:

36 x £4.25 = £153

Each parent paid twice as much: £4.25 x 2 = £8.50

3 parents x 8.50 = £25.50

Total paid: 153 + 25.50 = £178.50

178.50 is less than the coach ( 195)
