Given the 2 equations

6p - 4r = 14 → (1)

p - 2r = 5 → (2)

Multiplying (2) by - 6 and adding to (1) will eliminate the term in p

- 6p + 12r = - 30 → (3)

Add (1) and (3) term by term to eliminate p

8r = - 16 ( divide both sides by 8 )

r = - 2

Substitute r = - 2 into either of the 2 equations and solve for p

Substituting into (2)

p - 2(- 2) = 5

p + 4 = 5 ( subtract 4 from both sides )

p = 1
