Over the course of his two voyages, one beginning in 1497 and the second one beginning in 1502, Vasco da Gama landed and traded in locales along the Coast of Southern Africa before da Gama reached India in 1498 on May 20. Vasco da Gama died by contracted a disease called Malaria not long after arriving, in the city of Kochi, India on Christmas Eve in 1524, three months after his arrival.
