x=4 or x=-10

x² + 6x = 40

x² + 6x - 40 = 40 - 40

x² + 6x - 40 = 0

Use quadratic formula:
\frac{b-+\sqrt{b^(2) -4ac} }{2a}

a=1 , b=6 , c= -40


\frac{-(6)-+\sqrt{6^(2) -4.1.(-40)} }{2.1}


(-(6)-+√(196) )/(2.1)

x=4 or x=-10
