6 is being added onto -3x. The opposite of addition is subtraction. Subtract 6 from both sides.

–3x + 6 -6> 48-6

–3x > 48-6

–3x > 42

x is being multiplied by -3. The opposite of multiplication is division. Divide both sides by -3.

-3x/-3> 42/-3

x > 42/-3

Since we divided by a negative, we have to flip the inequality sign.
