A farmer sells 8.4 kilograms of pears and apples at the farmer's market. 3 5 of this weight is pears, and the rest is apples. How many kilograms of apples did she sell at the farmer's market?

Given;

Total mass of apple and pear sold = 8.4kg

Mass of apple sold = a

Mass of pear sold = 3.5kg

The total mass of apple and pear sold is the sum of the mass of apple and mass of pear sold.

Total mass = mass of apple + mass of pear

Mass of apple a = total mass - mass of pear sold

Substituting the given values;

Mass of apple a = 8.4 kg - 3.5 kg= 4.9kg
