the endpoints of ab are a(1, 4) and b(6, -1). if point c divides ab in the ratio 2:3, what would the coordinates of C be? If point d divides ab in the ratio 3:2, what would the coordinates of D be?

Answer:

C (3,2) D (4,1)

Explanation:

The x distance is 5 and y distance is 5.

Point C will cause ac:bc to be 2:3. Add 2 to the x value and subtract 2 to the y value in a to get point c.

Point D will cause ad:bd to be 3:2. Add 3 to the x value and subtract 3 to the y value in a to get point d.

The reason why you subtract for the y value is because the y value from a to b decreases.
