The amount of aluminum varies inversely as the amount of tin. When there are 600 grams of aluminum there are 40 grams of tin. How many grams of aluminum will there be if there is 120 grams of tin

However, the relationship between the variables are inverse, which means that we use an inverse rule of three. This means that we are going to multiply the values laterally, instead of diagonally(cross multiplication).

We have these following relationships:

600g aluminum - 40g tim

xg aluminium - 120g tin

Multiplying laterally:


120x = 600*40


x = (600*40)/(120)


x = 200

There will be 200g of aluminium.
