While no longer always lethal to its carriers as they traveled to foreign lands it was still a powerful disease to those who were not immune. Therefore, unlike the Europeans, inhabitants of these new lands had never been able to build-up an immunity to this deadly disease. While never intentionally introducing biological warfare Europeans did use its overcome to establish empires.
