Stan is serving lemonade at the school dance out of a cylindrical container. The radius is 10 inches and the height is 36 inches. The lemonade is poured into cone shaped cups with a radius of 2 inches and a height of 5 inches. How many full cone shaped cups can be filled from the cylindrical container?

Explanation:

Number of cone shaped cups = Volume of cylinder/volume of cone

Cylinder:

r = 10 inches

h = 36 inches

Volume = πr²h

= π * 10*10*36

= 3600 π cubic inches

Cone:

r = 2 inches

h = 5 inches

Volume = (1/3)πr²h


=(\pi*2*2*5 )/(3)\\\\=(20\pi )/(3) cubic inches

Number of cones = 3600 π / (20π/3)


= 3600\pi *(3)/(20\pi )\\\\= 180*3

= 540
