In a class of 26 students, 14 have a cat and 7 have a dog. There are 5

students who have a cat and a dog. What is the probability that a

student chosen randomly from the class does not have a dog?

A total of 12 students own a dog: 7 have a dog and 5 have a cat and a dog. Which means 12/26 students have a dog.

Now, 14/26 only own a cat. So you can do a cross multiplication (as shown in the picture) to find the probability.
