Researchers discovered a strain of C. parvum that expresses a functional variation of the lactate dehydrogenase gene. A DNA sequence comparison showed that the variant differs from the normal sequence in the region that codes for the enzymes allosteric site. Predict the effect of FX11 treatment of C. parvum cells that express this variant of lactase dehydrogenase. Provide reasoning to support your prediction. Explain how gossypol and FX11 might be used as drugs to treat C. parvum infections in humans without negatively affecting human cells.

Answer:

the union between MADH and F6 BP, which occur in LDH convert it to its active form, by decreasing the conversion of pyruvate to lactate results in a continuous supply of NADH.

when mutations occur and the modulators cannot make their union, the treatment with Fx11 will increase its toxicity than the normal form of LDH, so when it is mutated, the inhibition of the allosteric regulator and the drug decrease the activity of LDH which will lead to the cell at higher toxicity
