Firstly, we will be needing to calculate the are within the radius.

Mathematically, the area A = π
r^(2)

we substitute 5 miles for r

A = π × 5 × 5 = 25π
mile^(2)

Now the population density is 3100 people/
mile^(2)

The number of people within that area will thus be;

3100 people/
mile^(2) × 25π
mile^(2) = 243,473.43

This is equal to 240,000 people to the nearest ten thousand
