A company had three divisions with equal number of members. In the beginning of the year the company had a fund of $1200. In addition, each quarter every member of the company contributed the number of dollars equal to the number of members. At the end of the year the total money was divided equally among all members. If each of the members got $316, then how many members were there in each division ?

Answer:

There are 3 members in each division.

Let's Break it Down:

3 Divisions

Total Fund = $1,200

4 Quarters

Each member got $316

Plus the 3 x 4 = 12 < because, every member of the company contributed the number of dollars equal to the number of members.

Solving:

1,200 / 3 = 400

400 / 4 = 100

316 / 100 = 3.16 (Approximately 3)
