Why were the freed slaves fighting?​

Freed slaves were given good pay (marginally better than other freeman’s work) for fighting for the Union. They also saw it as a noble cause, as they had once been slaves and wished to free others from the institution.

To help all other slaves be free. Ending all slavery was a win for all black people.
