Answer: 8

Explanation:

(1)/(4) (16+12x)=28

Before we can do anything to the numbers in the parentheses, we must first get rid of the 1/4 on the left side

To do this, we would simply multiply each side by the reciprocal of 1/4, which would be 4 since whatever you do to one side you must also do to the other side

Doing this causes the 1/4 and 4 to cancel one another out on the left side and 28x4=112, leaving you with this:

(16+12x)=112

At this point we can get rid of the parentheses since they no longer serve a purpose

16+12x=28

Now, we still cannot do anything to the 12x since the 16 is still on the left side, so we must subtract 16 from both sides, leaving us with this:

12x=96

Finally we can solve for x now! Divide both sides by 12 to get x by itself and you have solved the question!

x=8

Answer:

x= 8

Explanation:

1/4(16+12x)=28

distribute by multiplying the numbers in parenthesis by 1/4

4+3x=28

subtract 4 from both sides

3x=24

divide both sides by 3

---------

x= 8
