What is the solution to this system?
X = 7 - 2y
2x + y = 5

Answer:

y= 3

Explanation:

1. plug in 7 - 2y for X in 2x = y = 5 it would look like this 2(7-2y) = y= 5

2. distribute the 2 with what is in the parenthesis. remember PEMDAS!! it would be 14 - 4y + y = 5

3. get the y alone. to do this subtract 14 from both sides. you will have

-4y + y = -9

4. combine the Y. you will get -3y = -9 (remember there is a 1 in front of alone variables that is how i got - 3)

5. divide to get the Y alone. that will be -9/-3 which is 3

your final answer: Y= 3
