Explain how life changed for African Americans in Texas after a new state constitution was written in 1866?

Answer:

Life changed very little for most African Americans as a result of the new constitution. Slavery was no longer legal but African Americans were not given civil rights such as the right to vote or hold public office. In addition, Texas enacted Black Codes which were law that basically re-created the conditions of slavery.
