Answer:

38.5 cm^2

Explanation:

To make it easy all you have to do is divide it into two shapes; a rectangle and a triangle. The sides of the rectangle are 5 cm and 7 cm, and the sides of the triangle are 1 cm and 7 cm. 5 multiplied by 7 = 35 cm^2 and 1 multiplied by 7 is 7 then you divide by to get an area of the triangle which = 3.5 cm^2

Note: cm^2 represents cm squared :)

Trapezoid, height 7, bases 5 and 6, so

area = (1/2) (6 + 5)(7) = 77/2 = 38.5

Answer: 38.5

As a check it's a 7×5 rectangle plus a 7×1 right triangle, so

A = 7×5 + 7×1/2 = 35 + 3.5 = 38.5, good
