From the fimbriae it moves through the infundibulum, which is a funnel-shaped opening. It progresses through the ampulla which is the widest section of the fallopian tube and where fertilization usually occurs. From there on through the body of the oviduct and through the isthmus which is a narrow opening connecting the fallopian tube to the uterine cavity.

From the uterine cavity it passes through the internal os (which connects the uterine cavity to the cervical canal), the cervical canal and through the external os to the vagina. From the vagina to the vaginal orifice or vestibule and out of the body.
