p=2.6

Add 7 to both sides

$4p-7+7=3.4+7\\4p=10.4$

Divide both sides by 4

$4p/4=10.4/4\\p=2.6$

Answer:

$4p - 7 = 3.4 \\ 4p = 3.4 + 7 \\ 4p = 10.4 \\ (4p)/(4) = (10.4)/(4) \\ p = 2.6$
