So since the value of "x" is already given lets just substitute that in equation#2

So

X=8+y

-2(8+y)+6y=-20

Distribute -2 to each term inside the parentheses

-16-2y+6y=-20

Combine like terms

-16+4y=-20

Add 16 on both sides

4y=-4

y=-1

Substitute -1 as y:

X=8-1

X=7
