2x+3(x+4) = -11

x= -23/5

alternative form:

x= -4.6 or x= -4 3/5

Explanation:

2x+3(x+4)= -11

multiply numbers in parenthesis by 3

2x+3x+12= -11

add 2x to 3x

5x+12= -11

move constant to right

5x= -11-12

subtract -11 to -12 but since there both negative the equation is addition.

5x= -23

divide both sides by 5

x= -23/5

alternative form:

x= -4.6 or x= -4 3/5
