Brent is making a wooden display case for his baseball collection. He has 54 balls from American League games and 42 balls from National League games. He wants to display the same number of baseballs in each row and does not want to put American League baseballs in the same row as National League baseballs. How many rows will Brent need in the display case to put the greatest number of baseballs possible in each row?

Brent needs 6 rows to display the balls.

Explanation:

Given,

Number of ball from American League games Brent has = 54

Number of ball from National League games he has = 42

To find out the number of rows to display the given balls.

We need to find out the GCF of 54 and 42.

Now,

54 = 3×3×3×2

42 = 7×3×2

GCF = 3×2 = 6

Hence,

Brent needs 6 rows to display the balls.
