Because it was a major turning point for the allied forces. It made a huge statement on a global scale. When they stormed the shores of Normandy that showed Germany that they were in for a fight

D-Day and the German Surrender. Hitler's not wanting to surrender to the Allies led to the Operation Overlordon on June 6, 1944. British, Canadian, and American forces ended up taking key points on the coast of Nazi-occupied France, signaling a beginning to the end of war in Europe. The time had finally come.
