Create a Postcard for the Glass Castle up to page 80

One of our reading standards includes analyzing how an author’s choice of detail and, particularly, sensory details achieves effect. Today you are going to create a postcard to practice the reading and writing skills that will help you get better at this.

Directions:
Choose one place where Jeanette spends time.
Write a postcard message from this place as if you are Jeannette at that time. (At least eight sentences).
In your postcard, use imagery to establish the atmosphere of the place. Must have at least FIVE imagery details. SHOW, don’t tell. Include and underline the theme of the text in your message.
Include a small quote (phrase with page number) from the text embedded in your narrative.
Draw an image on the front portion of your postcard that includes at least one image that represents the deeper meaning. If you Google “travel postcards,” you will see that one side looks similar to the photo below but the other side is often one big picture of a place or a collage of pictures from a place. You can do this part physically and take a photo to include in this assignment. You can also choose a picture from some place like Google Images to copy into your creation of the non-text side of the postcard, as shown in the example below. Watch the video I have attached here from Mr. Rich explaining how to do the electronic version of the postcard.
Remember it is totally fine to do this whole project on your own paper with your own art. Just create both sides of the postcard: the text side as shown below and the picture side. Then take clear pictures of both sides and post them here as attachments on the assignment page. That will work just fine and gives you choices on HOW you do this.

The postcard must reflect your best efforts in writing and visual/artistic delivery. The postcard must mimic an authentic postcard with a creative address and fake stamp.
