Read the sentence from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Tom considered, was about to consent; but he altered his mind: “No no—I reckon it wouldn’t hardly do, Ben.”

What is the meaning of the word consent as it is used in the sentence?

agree

stop

argue

discuss

Agree

consent means to approve or agree, and Tom almost did that. You can also tell it means agree by the first word he says in the sentence: "No, no".
