Specific incident in Powell life is when he took a summer job as a porter in Pepsi's Long Island plant which he shows how his job was hard and demanding, but he worked hard and got a decent pay.

The incident was so important for Powell because it was a job done by Black people but he didn't care. He just wanted to work. He was happy to help no matter what it was and who he was with. He was given a job bottling machines at the plant which was reserved for White folks the following year. He did not care about racial segregation
