if n+(0.20n) represents the selling price, and we are charged with a 5% sales tax then we just need to multiply the selling price by 0.05 and subtract the result from the selling price(sales tax means the selling cost decreases, which is why we subtract)

so

n+0.20n-(0.05(n+0.20n))

2)distribute

n+0.20n-0.05n+0.01n

3) combine like terms

1.20n-0.06n=1.14n

1.14n is the price after salestax is collected
