Answer: I find that I don't agree, while the idea that the 1950s were more prosperous and conforming and 1960s were a decade of turbulence. It is largely a stereotype as the civil Rights movement and protests Wich can be seen more towards turbulent and uncontrollable. The civil Rights movement started in 1954 and ended around 1968, same year as the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. An activist that started the movement towards practically and equal rights in 1955, meaning half that decade was incredibly unjust with no recognition. It's easy to see how the 1950s might be a good decade for America considering the idealization of nuclear families and how America had one of the world's strongest military powers, but inside America was unjust and unruly place and the 1950s were having activists and protests and propaganda/fight of communism, baby boom and probably only seemed much more peaceful than the 1960s due to the recent end of ww2 in 1945, leaving the 1950s seeming utterly angelic in comparison when much racism sexism, homophobia and xenophobia lied under the rug but very much prominent. While in the 1960s the avoidance of war and the acknowledgement of racial, and sexist profiling were igniting awareness in the common person. So while at first glance the 1950s may appear to have been the more prosperous it was truly the 1960s that caused real change and equality to push forward through old and outdated societal "norms".
