The grasslands are known as steppes and they are found between the Ukraine and Russia.Together with the forest -steppe, the steppes form the chernozem belt, the agricultural heartland of Russia. The forest-steppe is black chernozem soil, high in organic matter (OM) and minerals, and better watered than the steppe.
