How does the use of first-person point of view in "Homesick" affect the short story as a whole?

It makes the reader wonder what Jean is thinking.

It allows the reader to see how Jean is torn between two worlds.

It shows that Jean is angry at her parents for making her live in China.

It does nothing for the narrative.
